Alfred Herman Behnke Jr. was born on October 28, 1920, in Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida. He was the son of Alfred Herman Behnke Sr. and Freda Clara Marze Behnke. He served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.

Sgt Behnke was Killed in Action on August 18, 1944, during the liberation of Argentan, France. He is now buried in the Mount Moriah Cemetery, Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, USA.
