William Leroy Buttorff was born on May 26, 1921, Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Harry Jonathan Buttorff and Clara Rebecca Stover Buttorff. He served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Buttorff was Killed in Action on August 19, 1944, during the liberation of Argentan, France. He is now buried in the Mount Holly Springs Cemetery, Mount Holly Springs, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, USA.
