Harrell Leonard Cole was born on April 17, 1922, in Tehuacana, Limestone County, Texas. He was the son of Frank Kirby Cole and Bessie Leonard Cole. He served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, as a Second Lieutenant during World War II.

2Lt Cole was Killed in Action on August 19, 1944, during the liberation of Argentan, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
