John Anthony Fricano was born on August 16, 1921, Independence, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Antonino Fricano and Josephine Giangrasso Fricano. He served in the 318th Infantry Regiment, 80th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Fricano was Killed in Action on August 19, 1944, during the liberation of Argentan, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Departement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France. He also has a cenotaph in the Colonial Cemetery and Mausoleum, Independence, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, USA.
