James L. Lockhart Sr. was born on January 8, 1925. He was the son of Charlie Greenberry Lockhart and Leila May "Lela" Dill Posey. He was married to Jessie Lowe Lockhart. He served in Company B, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II.
Lockhart landed in the first wave on Omaha Beach at the Dog White sector during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. He fought in major campaigns across Normandy, Brittany, and Belgium, including the Battle of the Bulge, and ended his military service as a Private First Class. After the war, he worked as a commissary officer at Aberdeen Proving Ground and remained active in veteran affairs.
Lockhart died on October 3, 2017, and is now buried in the Saint Mary Annes Episcopal Church Cemetery, North East, Cecil County, Maryland, USA.
