Andrew Rheinold Johnson was born on July 10, 1892, in Saint Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. He was the son of Charles W. and Margaret Hackerson Johnson. He served in the 7th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops, as a Sapper during World War I.

Sapper Johnson died on August 7, 1917, in Belgium. He is now buried in the Brandhoek New Military Cemetery, Vlamertinghe, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
