Arthur George Knight was born on October 2, 1889, in San Francisco County, California. He was the son of Edward Martin and Emily B. Knight. He attended Dulwich College and then studied history at Magdalen College, Oxford, graduating in 1911. After working as a private tutor, he became an Assistant Master at Rossall School in 1913. He enlisted in the London Rifle Brigade but soon accepted a commission in the 9th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), becoming a Lieutenant in March 1915 during World War I.
Lt Knight was Killed in Action on June 29, 1915, by a sniper in Belgium. He is now buried in the Calvaire Essex Military Cemetery, Comines-Warneton, Arrondissement de Mouscron, Hainaut, Belgium.
