Harold Jeffrey McConnell was born in August 1893, in Spokane, Spokane County, Washington. He was the son of William and Mary McConnell. He served in the 98th Squadron, Royal Air Force, as a Lieutenant during World War I. and commissioned in the 5th Bn. Royal Irish Rifles.

Lt McConnell died on May 31, 1918, Observer on a De Havilland DH 9 (B7657). The pilot was Captain Gifford Horton, buried at Bedford House. McConnell is now buried in the Larch Wood Cemetery, Zillebeke, Arrondissement Ieper, West Flanders, Belgium.
