James Joseph Principato was the son of Nicholas "Nick" Principato and Maria Nina "Anna" Alberti Principato. He was married to Lilliana Hope Principato. He served as a Technician 3rd Grade and combat medic with the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, during World War II, taking part in the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach in France.

T3 Principato died on April 20, 1979, and is now buried in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Alsip, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
