Joseph Alfred Buechner was born on July 17, 1910, in Fryburg, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Killian Anthony Buechner and Christina Philomena Ochs Buechner. He was married to Frances Beatrix Schmader Buechner. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.
Pvt Buechner was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
