William Wauford Burkett Jr. was born on January 1, 1922, in Watertown, Wilson County, Tennessee. He was the son of William Wauford Burkett and Annie Hugh Midgett Burkett. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II.
Sgt Burkett was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee, USA.
