John Di Ciacco was born on June 26, 1912, in Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado. He was the son of Gaetano Guy DiCiacco and Clelia Emilia "Clara" Bertini DiCiacco. He worked in the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company before enlisting in the service. He served in the 709th Tank Battalion as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Di Ciacco was Killed in Action on August 25, 1944, where his platoon came under heavy fire and the lead tank was destroyed by a land mine during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France. He also has a cenotaph in the Roselawn Cemetery, Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado, USA.
