Robert Shaw Hugener was born on February 10, 1911, in Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph Henry Hugener and Margaret Belle "Maggie" Shaw Hugener. He enlisted in the service on May 3, 1942. He served in the 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Hugener was Killed in Action on September 4, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Superior, Douglas County, Wisconsin, USA.
