Chester S. Kwiatkowski was born on July 18, 1919, in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of John Kwiatkowski and Eva Sciechowicz Kwiatkowski. He graduated from St. Joseph's School and Duquesne Preparatory University. He was a reporter on the Polish Everybody's Daily newspaper before enlisting in the service on July 22, 1941. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Technical Sergeant during World War II.

TSgt Kwiatkowski was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
