Hans Poehlmann was born on July 13, 1918, in Rochester, Monroe County, New York. He was the son of John Poehlmann and Meta Arps Poehlmann. He was employed by the Herff-Jones Company before entering military service in July 1941. He served in the 28th Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Poehlmann was Killed in Action on August 24, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA.
