James Price Shelton was born on June 16, 1912, in Tishomingo, Tishomingo County, Mississippi. He was the son of Marcus Copeland "Mark" Shelton. He was married to Dorothy Pearl "Dora" Acy Shelton. He enlisted in the service on January 6, 1944. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Shelton was Killed in Action on September 2, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, D�partement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
