Robert Eugene Springer was born on April 29, 1925, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He was the son of Ralph L. Springer. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School. He served in the 709th Tank Battalion as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Springer was Killed in Action on August 25, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, D�partement de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
