Fred Gerald Wilder was born on August 11, 1924, in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska. He was the son of Harold Curtis Wilder and Emma Rose Tefft Wilder Parks. He served in the 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Wilder was Killed in Action on September 3, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
