Adolph Lasinus Winther was born on June 10, 1916, in Verona, Onslow County, North Carolina. He was the son of E. A. Williams and Idera Silance Williams. He completed his education at the Walsh County Agricultural and Training School and later attended the North Dakota Agricultural College before being sent overseas. He was stationed at Fort Logan, Colorado. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Captain during World War II.

Cpt Winther was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, during the Battle of Brest, France. He is now buried in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA.
