R. C. Alverson was born on May 20, 1923, in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Alverson Sr. and Leona Mae "Lona" Naymon Alverson. He was married to Effie Mae Adams Alverson. He served in Company A, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Sergeant and Light Weapons Assault Infantryman during the Korean War.
Sgt Alverson died from his wounds received in battle on August 13, 1950, in North Korea. He is now buried in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama, USA.
