Henry Erby Lever was born on April 14, 1895. He was the son of Samuel H. "Sam" Lever and Mary Emmie Carolyn Corley Lever.

He served in a Battery of the 6th Field Artillery Regiment, as a Private during World War I. He died from disease on September 23, 1918, in the hospital La Courneau, Camp Hunt in France. He was buried at Pilgrim Lutheran Church Cemetery, Lexington, Lexington County, South Carolina, USA.
