Charlie Knight Edmondson Jr. was born on May 17, 1923, in South Carolina. He was the son of Charlie Knight Edmondson Sr. and Annie Prince Edmondson. He served in the 307th Engineer Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, as a Private during World War II, and was stationed in Burbage before the D-Day landing.
Pvt Edmondson was Killed in Action on June 6, 1944, during the Normandy Invasion. He is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Département du Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France. He also has a cenotaph in the Forrest Cemetery, Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama, USA.
