Leo H. Lamb was born on October 4, 1923, in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. He was the son of Arthur J. Lamb and Myrtle D. Astrain Lamb. He served in the 376th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot of P-51 #42-106627 nicknamed ''Germicide'' during World War II.
On September 27, 1944, P-51 Mustang serial number 42-106627, serving with the U.S. Eighth Air Force in the European Theater of Operations, was lost during a combat mission over German-controlled territory. The aircraft was flying in support of American bomber operations when it encountered enemy opposition, including fighter interception and anti-aircraft fire. During the engagement, the Mustang was shot down and crashed in enemy-held territory. The loss of the aircraft and the fate of its pilot were officially recorded in a U.S. Army Air Forces Missing Air Crew Report and occurred during the intense aerial fighting that accompanied the strategic bombing campaign over Germany.
2Lt Lamb was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Département de la Moselle, Lorraine, France.
