Andrew O'Dea was born on September 11, 1884, in Manchester, Metropolitan Borough of Manchester, Greater Manchester, England. He was the son of Patrick and Margret O'Dea. He was married to Annie O'Dea. He enlisted in the service on June 16, 1917, in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He served in the 13th Battalion, Quebec Regiment, Canadian Infantry, as a Private during World War I.

Pvt O'Dea died on November 18, 1918, in Germany. He is now buried in the Friedhof Niederzwehren, Niederzwehren, Stadtkreis Kassel, Hessen, Germany.
