Santos Valencia Alvarado Jr. was born on January 3, 1931, in Casa Grande, Pinal County, Arizona. He served in Company L, 3rd Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

PFC Alvarado was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on June 29, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
