Lester A. Abbott was born on April 3, 1917, in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Stefano "Stephen" Abbott Sr. and Josephine Bellon Abbott. He attended Technical High School and was a chauffeur before he joined the Regular Army at Fort McPherson, Georgia, on August 28, 1940. He was sent overseas in October 1944. He served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 397th Infantry Regiment, 100th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.
PFC Abbott was Killed in Action on April 1, 1945, in the vicinity of Heilbronn, Germany. He is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-Avold, Département de la Moselle, Lorraine, France.
