Rudolph Eugene Bolte was born on June 17, 1911, in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. He was the son of Rudolph Emil "Rudy" Bolte and Edna Marvin Forber Pester. He was married to Erma Louise Wilson McGuire. He enlisted in the service on June 22, 1942. He served in Company H, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a First Lieutenant during World War II.

1Lt Bolte was killed in Action on September 18, 1944, by a German tank artillery shell during the liberation of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands. His name appears incorrectly spelled on the plaque.
