James Leonard “Jim” Davidson was born on December 2, 1917, in Maybeury, McDowell County, West Virginia. He was the son of Edward Gorill Davidson and Martha Elizabeth Hambrick Davidson. He was married to Mildred Geraldine Marshall Davidson Hawley. He served in the Headquarters Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private during World War II.

Pvt Davidson was killed in Action on September 19, 1944, during the liberation of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, Tazewell County, Virginia, USA.
