Charles Robert Deem Jr. was born on August 11, 1924, in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. He was the son of Charles French Deem and Gertrude Rice Deem. He served in Company H, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private First Class during World War II.

PFC Deem was killed in Action on September 18, 1944, during the liberation of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Union Cemetery, Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, USA.
