Marvin Joseph Descant was born on August 15, 1924, in Evergreen, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana. He was the son of Pierre Joseph D. "Pete" Descant and Celestine Mary Armand Descant. He entered the U.S. Army on July 2, 1943, and began training at Camp Callan, California, in the Anti-Aircraft Division. After being transferred to Fort Benning, Georgia, he earned his paratrooper wings and boots and was assigned to the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private during World War II.
Pvt Descant died from his wounds received in battle on September 18, 1944, during the liberation of Eindhoven in the Netherlands. He is now buried in the Saint Mary's Assumption Catholic Cemetery, Cottonport, Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, USA.
