Major General Milton Baldridge Halsey served a distinguished military career which spanned 3-1/2 decades and 3 major military conflicts-World War I, World War II, & the Korean Conflict.
Milton Halsey entered the U.S. Military Academy at West Point as a Cadet on 14 Jun 1913 and graduated from there on 19 Apr 1917; on 20 Jul 1917 he began his service in the United States Army. He was promoted to Captain in the Army on 27 Mar 1918, and on 7 Aug 1953 he retired from the U.S. Army as a Major General.
During WW II he served as Brigadier General of the 97th Infantry Division of the United States Army. As a result of his leadership on September 20, 1946 he received the Army Distinguished Service Medal. His citation was as follows: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Brigadier General Milton B. Halsey (ASN: 0-5305), United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility as Commanding General of the 97th Infantry Division during the period from March to September 1945. The singularly distinctive accomplishments of General Halsey reflect the highest credit upon himself and the United States Army.
