He was born January 16, 1923, in Brighton, the son of Frank and Mary (Deathridge) Blodgett.

He served in the Air Force as a captain during World War II and was a POW for nine months in Poland. In 1996, Dan and other survivors were honored at the Polish embassy on the 50th anniversary of when their plane was shot down. He received an honorary medal from the grateful people of Vadowice, Poland. He retired after 30 years of service working as a project manager for multiple construction companies. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1308 and he helped start Specialized Services now known as Challenge Unlimited. February 2, 1974 in Alton, Ill. he married Geraldine Dunnagan
