Yutaka Jack Amano was born on March 7, 1926, in Los Angeles County, California. He was the son of Shigeto Amano and Yaeno Amano. He served in the 48th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant First Class and Field Artillery Liaison Specialist during the Korean War.

SFC Amano was Killed in Action on December 11, 1950, during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. He is now buried in the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, San Diego County, California, USA.
