Yoshimi Fukumoto was born on February 15, 1925. He was the son of Kijiro Fukumoto and Teru Fukumoto. He served in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during the Korean War.

PFC Fukumoto was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on February 15, 1951, and returned to duty on March 12, 1951. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on May 18, 1951, and is now buried in the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 1, Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA.
