Edward Kenichi Hirakawa was born on April 17, 1927, in Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii. He was the son of Sadao and Tokie Uchimura Hirakawa. He served in the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, as a Private and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

Pvt Hirakawa was Killed in Action on July 20, 1950, near Taejon, South Korea. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
