Shigeo Hiyane was born on May 20, 1929. He was the son of Kanazo Nakasone. He was married to Harriet Hiyane. He served in the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private and Light Weapons Assault Crewman during the Korean War.

Pvt Hiyane was Killed in Action on September 3, 1951, during the Battle of Bloody Ridge in North Korea. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
