Richard Yasuyuki Kono was born on April 2, 1932. He was the son of Kiyoshi Kono and Ruth Hatsue Somekawa Kono. He served in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division, as a Corporal during the Korean War.

Cpl Kono was Killed in Action on August 12, 1952, in South Korea. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
