Kiyomitsu Kutsunai was born on February 15, 1925, in Hawaii. He was the son of Kenichi Kutsunai and Tsuna Kutsunai. He served in the 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division, as a Private First Class and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

PFC Kutsunai was Killed in Action on April 26, 1951, in North Korea. He is now buried in the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 1, Hilo, Hawaii County, Hawaii, USA.
