Lawrence K. Machida was born on September 17, 1930. He was the son of Henry Bunichi Machida. He graduated from Kaimuki High School. He was originally served with the 34th Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, before being transferred to the 2nd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment on August 30, 1950.

Cpl Machida was seriously wounded in action by enemy forces in South Korea on September 4, 1950, and succumbed to his wounds later that same day. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
