Samuel Sadao Miyahira was born on November 15, 1931, in Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii. He was the son of Norma Higa. He served in Company H, 2nd Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team, as a Sergeant and Heavy Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

Sgt Miyahira was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Ukkalgye, South Korea, on April 23, 1951. He was presumed dead on March 16, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
