Kenichi Nishiyama was born on February 5, 1927, in Kukuihaele, Hawaii County, Hawaii. He was the son of Ryorchi Nishiyama. He was the husband of Fumi Nishiyama. He served in the 201 Counter-Intelligence Corps Detachment as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War.

SFC Nishiyama died on October 22, 1951, at the 8055th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital as a result of an accidental weapon discharge by another soldier. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
