Richard Masao Takahashi was born on August 17, 1931, in Honolulu County, Hawaii. He was the son of Zenichi Takahashi and Hatsu Amaki Takahashi. He served in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, as a Corporal and Infantry Intelligence during the Korean War.

Cpl Takahashi was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on December 3, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. He also has a cenotaph in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
