Kaname Richard Tamashiro was born on May 18, 1930, in Maui County, Hawaii. He was the son of Yasunori and Kama Tamashiro. He served in Company I, 3rd Battalion, 180th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division, as a Private and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

Pvt Tamashiro Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on June 14, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. He also has a cenotaph in the Maui Veterans Cemetery, Makawao, Maui County, Hawaii, USA.
