Richard Tokunaga was born on August 8, 1932. He served in the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class and Light Weapons Infantryman during the Korean War.

PFC Tokunaga was seriously wounded in action by enemy fire during the Battle of Triangle Hill in North Korea and succumbed to his wounds on October 15, 1952. He is now buried in the Kauai Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe, Kauai County, Hawaii, USA.
