Daniel Takashi Toma was born on September 24, 1931, in Waipahu, Honolulu County, Hawaii. He was the son of Samuel Koichiro Toma and Yamaki Takahashi Toma. He served in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, as a Private First Class during the Korean War.

PFC Toma died from his wounds received in battle on October 12, 1952, in Korea. He is now buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Honolulu County, Hawaii, USA.
