Akira Uota was born on December 8, 1931, in Fresno, Fresno County, California. He served in Company E, 2nd Battalion, 17th Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class and Light Weapons Assault Crewman during the Korean War.

PFC Uota was listed as Missing in Action while conducting a counterattack at "Pork Chop Hill" in North Korea on July 8, 1953. He was presumed dead on July 9, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
