Muneo Yaka was born on March 8, 1931, in Kapaa, Kauai County, Hawaii. He was the son of Charles Soei Yaka and Utako Yaka. He attended Kapaa High School, Class of 1949. He served in Company F, 2nd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, as a Corporal and Light Weapons Assault Crewman during the Korean War.

Cpl Yuta was a member of Company F, 2nd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on October 15, 1952. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. He also has a cenotaph in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific and Kapaa-Kealia Cemetery.
