Bio. - Carl was born in Rome, Georgia, U.S.A. on Jan. 24, 1879 to a Civil War veteran and dry goods merchant, Pvt. Gideon Millard Boyd, Sr. (1846-1923) and Mary Julia Humphreys (1856-1946). He was one of five children - including Willis Morgan (1877), Gideon Millard (1882), Julia Pauline (1884), and Robert (1893). He attended and graduated the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. in 1903 and was appointed a 2nd Lt. upon graduation. He married Miss Ann Peeples (1884-1945) on Oct. 7, 1903 in St. Louis. They had one daughter Ann Boyd (Crain/Scotten) - (1905-?) while he was stationed at Fort Yellowstone, Wyoming. She married Robert McGregor Scotten in 1929.
Carl entered West Point in June 1898, he was listed as a 2nd Lt. 3rd Cavalry in June, 1903, Graduate of Mounted School in 1910, and promoted to 1st Lt. 1911. He was promoted to Major 5/1917 and then Lt. Col. 7/30/1918. He was Aide-de-Camp for General John Pershing shortly up until his death on Feb. 12, 1919 of Bronchial Pneumonia while at the American Military Hospital in Paris, France.
