Roberto Soledad Florida was born on July 26, 1956, in Camarines Sur, Philippines, and enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1981. During his naval career, he attained the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) and served as a Storekeeper Master Chief (SKCM). He served aboard the USS Midway (CV-41), USS Enterprise (CVN-65), USS Independence (CV-62), and USS Essex (LHD-2), and later served at the Military Sealift Command Headquarters.
