Edgardo Labao joined the United States Navy in 1972 and devoted more than 30 years to military service, building extensive expertise in logistics, finance, business management, food service, and personnel support. During his naval career, he played a vital role in major operations, including Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Joint Endeavor. As the Services Officer aboard an aircraft carrier, he directed the rapid loading of food, retail supplies, and logistical support for approximately 6,000 military personnel within 36 hours following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 2002 with the rank of Logistics Lieutenant Commander.

Following his naval retirement, Labao continued serving military personnel by joining Navy Region Southwest as Food Service Director. In this capacity, he managed the operations of 13 Navy dining facilities across 12 naval installations in California and the Southwest region, ensuring the delivery of approximately three million meals annually to Sailors. Drawing upon the leadership and logistics experience he gained during his Navy career, he successfully directed one of the Navy's largest regional food service programs.
